Vice Chairman of the Black Stars Management Committee and former Ghana captain, Stephen Appiah is optimistic about the team’s chances of qualifying for the 2026 World Cup.
The four-time African champions have boosted their prospects with consecutive wins against Chad and Madagascar, propelling them to the top of Group I with 15 points.
Ghana secured a 5-0 thrashing of Chad at the Accra Sports Stadium, followed by a convincing 3-0 win against Madagascar in Morocco. With four matches remaining, Appiah expressed confidence in the team’s World Cup qualification chances, citing their recent performances.
“I’ve seen enough to give me hope,” Appiah told Citi Sports. “The new players who came in showed themselves well in the friendlies, the Unity Cup against Nigeria and Trinidad, and our recent wins. With four games left, nothing tells me we’re not going to qualify.”
The Black Stars will regroup in September for Matchday 7 and 8 games against Chad and Mali, before wrapping up their qualifiers against Comoros and Central African Republic in October. Ghana currently leads their group with a three-point lead and will aim for strong performances in the remaining matches to secure a back-to-back World Cup slot.
