Alabama, as usual, was well represented in the Cars.com American-Made Index, which ranks the best vehicles made in the United States.
It’s the site’s 20th ranking of American-made vehicles, and 17 of the top 100 come from Alabama.
The ranking identifies vehicles that the site believes contribute the most to the U.S. economy. More than 400 vehicles were evaluated.
To create the index, the site looks at location of final assembly, percentage of U.S and Canadian parts, country of origin of available engines and transmissions, and the number of U.S. employees relative to the automaker’s footprint.
The index this year takes on even more resonance, given the tariffs imposed on foreign-made automobiles by the Trump Administration. But if you want to know in what country your vehicle was made, you can also visit Cars.com’s list of vehicles made outside the U.S.
At the top of the American-Made Index was the Model 3 by Tesla, which has factories in California and Texas, among other sites. In fact, the top four vehicles were all made by Tesla. The Alabama entries into the top 25 are:
- The Honda Ridgeline pickup, at No. 7, built in Lincoln.
- The Honda Odyssey mini-van, at No. 8, built in Lincoln.
- The Honda Passport SUV, at No. 9, built in Lincoln.
- The Honda Pilot SUV, at No. 12, built in Lincoln.
- The Toyota Corolla Cross Hybrid SUV, at No. 18, built in Huntsville.
Just outside the top 25 was the Hyundai Santa Cruz pickup, built in Montgomery, which checked in at No. 26.
