Roslan Abdullah appointed as GWM Malaysia’s COO

Roslan Abdullah has been appointed as chief operating officer (COO) of Great Wall Motor Malaysia. He assumes the new role after having stepped down from his position as deputy chief executive officer of Proton earlier this month.

Roslan joined Proton on June 1, 2020 as vice president of sales and marketing at Proton as well as CEO of Proton Edar, before being appointed as Proton’s deputy CEO in January 2022. He also held the position of general manager at DRB-Hicom from June 2019 until this month.

In a statement, Roslan said that GWM has all the right building blocks to shape the future of mobility in Malaysia. “My vision is to position GWM as a trusted long-term mobility partner through a strong and reliable dealer and service network, a product portfolio that meets the needs of all Malaysians and a firm commitment to delivering seamless ownership experiences,” he said.

“We are aligned with the goernment’s aspirations under the National Automotive Policy and will continue to support Malaysia’s shift toward sustainable and intelligent transportation,” he added.

GWM Malaysia MD Cui Anqi said the company was honoured to have Roslan join the GWM family. “His leadership experience and strategic insight will be instrumental in strengthening our operations, reinforcing customer confidence and establishing GWM as a long-term player in Malaysia’s automotive landscape,” he said.

Prior to his stint at Proton, he was with Honda Malaysia from December 2012 to June 2019, where he last served as president and COO. He has spent close to three decades in the automotive industry working in a variety of roles, including that in finance, operations and sales.

Vice president of sales and marketing at Proton as well as CEO of Proton Edar, before being appointed as Proton’s deputy CEO in January 2022.
    – No wonder he wants to leave it is like downgrading him when he knows the CEO of other country will not leave but then why do we know all these so well especially with the same quality issue with Proton and even Honda.

What are you talking about? He held the post of Deputy CEO of PROTON and CEO of Proton Edar at the same time. There was no demotion but a promotion. Also Proton Edar is a subsidiary of PROTON so DCEO of PROTON is a higher post.

He contributed to marketing the Honda brand to Malay demographics and improved their market position. Maintained good QC record for Honda too. From what I remember, the Honda QC problem arose only after he joined Proton.

Still remember when Honda cut Proton to 2nd most sold cars in Malaysia during his tenure.

He was with Honda Malaysia from 2012-2019 and the infamous steering rack issue was for Honda Civic (10th Gen) released since 2016 and others. Also didn’t the fuel pump recall issued recently also affected cars since 2015?

The shitty one is the old Proton that went out of business despite having monopoly. If not for Geely, Proton bungkus long ago.

So many keyboard warriors here eh? Cuba korang duduk tempat dia. It’s not easy managing sales in the cutthroat auto manufacturing & dealership business, with
issues in work culture, politics, etc.

Wishing him all the best with GWM!!

I don’t know how good he is at his job but kudos to Chines companies. Chinese company hires local for big post but European companies only hires foregners (mostly europeans) for big position.

From moaning in Proton that other brand doin tis and tat … head to GWM to become COO of one of the brand he moan of before! LOL … but a good jump to be honest…

But in the end, if no result, chinese business minded company will dump u just like that, so call TOP insider is just a naive tag by certain people…. those who really know malaysia market is in perodua and not proton.

Proton success in recent years is also due to Geely… and not HICOM!

Proton first beli 2008 sampai sekarang 2025 takde improvement. Still kena tukar timing belt, still ada problem cermin tingkap tak boleh naik.

Yang good job tu model saga still mantain harga rahmah. Yang model geely tu tak payah lah, harga tu i beli toyota atau honda jer takyah pening kepala.
