Boy dies after getting into difficulty in water at beach
Police said they and other emergency services attended an incident on Saturday afternoon involving a young child
Tragedy struck off the west coast of Ireland as a young boy lost his life after struggling in the water.
According to Irish police, the distressing incident happened at Lissadell Beach in Co Sligo on Saturday afternoon, when emergency services were sent to assist a young child in difficulty.
A Garda spokesperson confirmed: "The male child was airlifted by Rescue 118 to Sligo University Hospital in a serious condition. He has since passed away.
"A file will be prepared for the Coroner's Court."
This heartbreaking incident comes just one week after two teenagers met a similar fate in Co Donegal, where they struggled in the water, reports Belfast Live.
Emmanuel Familola, a 16 year old from Nigeria, and Matt Sibanda, an 18 year old from Zimbabwe, had been playing football in Buncrana the previous Saturday when they chased after a ball into the sea and got into difficulties.
Earlier on Saturday, a funeral was held in Buncrana for Emmanuel.
