BROOKINGS — South Dakota State University Extension and the South Dakota Humanities Council are proud to present the second “Heirlooms: Wisdom Writing Roadshow,” a dynamic event series that encourages older people to explore the wisdom they have gained.
This initiative highlights the power of collaboration, as SDSU Extension and the South Dakota Humanities Council partner with community organizations dedicated to enhancing quality of life in South Dakota.
Leacey Brown, SDSU Extension Gerontology Field Specialist, and Molly Barari, South Dakota Humanities Scholar, will travel to seven communities from June 2-6, 2025. Participating communities are:
• Vermillion — June 2 at 10 a.m. CDT
• Chamberlain — June 3 at 9:30 a.m. CDT
• Mitchell — June 3 at 2 p.m. CDT
• Huron — June 4 at 9:30 a.m. CDT
• Brookings — June 4 at 2 p.m. CDT
• Aberdeen — June 5 at 1:30 p.m. CDT
• Lemmon — June 6 at 10:30 a.m. MDT
These workshops engage and inspire attendees through a combination of educational content and writing. Brown and Barari create a learning environment that encourages students to explore their life experiences. Participants will also learn how writing can help them cope during difficult or challenging times.
Brown said reflecting on the wisdom gained with age provides a valuable sense of perspective, gratitude and empowerment, allowing individuals to appreciate both life’s joys and challenges, recognize their own resilience and share their insights to strengthen connections with others.
To ensure your spot at this must-attend event, contact the host organization in your community to RSVP and receive directions to the location. For a complete list of contact information, visit extension.sdstate.edu/events and search “wisdom writing.”
