Manchester is set to be warmer than holiday hotspot Barcelona this week.

Today (Wednesday May 1) our region's temperatures matched those in the beautiful north-eastern Spanish city. The mercury stretched to 19C in Greater Manchester, the same as Barcelona - which also saw sunshine, showers and was issued a high UV warning.

Greater Manchester, meanwhile, saw cloudy conditions, turning overcast at times, as well as a high pollen count. But tomorrow will see our temperatures beat Barcelona's, according to The Met Office's latest forecast.

We will see maximum temperatures of 20C on Thursday (May 2), while Barcelona will see 19C. Mancunians can expect a pleasant, dry day with plenty of sunny intervals. And be sure to slap on the sun cream, as the UV rating will be high.

Barcelona will also see sunny intervals with a bit of cloud. For the rest of the week, though, it will be warmer than Manchester.

Temperatures will remain in the mid-teens for our region, hitting 15C on Thursday and remaining at 16C from Friday until Tuesday. Conditions are forecast to be dry but cloudy, with low chances of sun breaking through.

Meanwhile Barcelona is forecast highs of 19C for the rest of the week and into Tuesday, rising to 20C on Monday. Uninterrupted sunshine is forecast on Friday, Tuesday and Sunday.

It comes as the Met Office issued a yellow warning for thunderstorms in some parts of the UK tonight (May 1). Large parts of the south of England and Wales have been warned to expect higher chance of heavy rain, thunderstorms, and potential flooding.

The warnings will take effect from 8pm today (May 1) until 8am tomorrow (May 2) in some parts while other parts will see the warning from 11pm tonight until 6am tomorrow. Cities covered by the warning include London, Brighton, Oxford, Bath, and Cardiff.

Due to the thunderstorms, travellers have been cautioned to expect some travel disruptions including delays or even cancellations to some train and bus services.
