Nissan Note spied in India: Why we think the Note will not come to India

An old car that shares its platform with the ageing Micra could not possibly be the way forward for Nissan that has been struggling in the Indian market

Nissan Note spied in India: Why we think the Note will not come to India

This is not the first time we’ve spotted the Nissan Note testing in India, and test miles at cropping up is usually an indicator of an imminent launch. The Test mule spotted this time is also in the same black paint scheme as the earlier one, except for the number on the Note’s temporary plates. The Note is in no way a new car, it made its first public appearance back in 2013 at the Geneva Auto Show, and has even gotten its first mid-cycle facelift last year. The test mule, however, seems to be in the pre-facelift car. Although if Nissan is testing the car it might be safe to assume that it is likely to launch soon. As of right now, the Leaf is powered by a 1.2-litre petrol that churns motors on the Micra here in India, and the 1.5 litre K9K diesel that is used by Nissan in India for almost all their cars. Now the question arises as to why Nissan would want to bring this to India since they already have the ageing Micra in that space. But it would be a stretch to say that the Note would be much of an upgrade. Unless of course, Nissan is considering the globally available Note E-power for India. Again, in the interest of a full disclaimer, the Test mule in these photographs does not have an E-Power badging. The E-Power is their petrol powered electric car, which uses a petrol engine as a generator to make power. .The Note e-Power gets the same EV technology as seen in Nissan Leaf and is powered by the HR12DE petrol engine. The engine generates 77 hp of power and 103 Nm of torque and the electric motor produces 107 hp of power and 254 Nm of torque. To charge the battery the electric vehicle doesn’t have an external charger and it uses its petrol engine.

It’s important that we not jump the gun and assume that Nissan will be bringing the Note to India, since they have officially only announced that they would be bringing a performance hatch to take on the likes of the Baleno RS and the Polo GT. Test mules are often brought to test certain component under varying conditions as well, and this might be here for just that. Since the Note conforms to none of Nissan’s plans in India, we assume that it’s just here for that.
