Croatian carmaker Rimac Automobili has unveiled what it says is the world's fastest production electric car.

The Concept_One will officially debut at the Geneva International Motor Show in Switzerland, which runs from 3-13 March. For now, potential buyers can read about and view pictures of the car online.

Designed in the style of a sleek, luxurious supercar, the Concept_One is purported to accelerate from 0-100km per hour in 2.8 seconds, and will have an electronically-limited top speed of 305km per hour.

The 1 088-horsepower supercar is powered by an 82KWh lithium iron phosphate battery, which offers a range of 500km per charge. The battery can constantly deliver or receive over a megawatt of power, "which makes it suitable for race-track use without thermal problems", according to Rimac.

Each of the car's wheels is driven by a separate sub-system consisting of its own motor, inverter and reduction gearbox, in a new configuration Rimac calls "All Wheel Torque Vectoring". The system is designed to distribute the power to each wheel in each situation based on numerous input factors, says Rimac.

The car's body is made from carbon fibre, the lightweight nature of which aids in increasing the speed and reducing the energy consumption of the vehicle.

The supercar will retail at the equivalent of close to one million US dollars.
