Skoda Fabia has been long waiting for an update and now the compact car is about to get one. Skoda Auto has released a teaser sketch of the car, which is set to break cover at the Geneva Motor Show to be held in March. Skoda Fabia has been the company’s third most popular car, after the Octavia and Rapid. Not many details are known yet, but Skoda says that the Fabia facelift will have ‘fresh, new design elements and state-of-the-art technology’. New Skoda Fabia will have new LED headlamps and for the first time, the model will come with LEDs in the tail lamps as well. The revised Skoda Fabia will also be equipped with new ‘Simply Clever’ features.
The model plays a key role in the Czech carmaker’s current model range. Since 1999, over four million units of the Skoda Fabia have been sold worldwide, with the current third model generation alone accumulating sales in excess of the 500,000 mark.
As far as the engine options are concerned, not many big changes are expected and the Skoda Fabia will continue to be powered by the same powertrains. There may, however, be an addition of Volkswagen Group’s new 1.5-litre TSI petrol unit already available in the latest Polo.
While the VW models are full MQB products, the Skoda rides on an older PQ26 platform featuring hardware sourced from the PQ25 and MQB architectures.
There is so far no timeline on when will the new Skoda Fabia make it to the Indian market, but details will be much clearer after the production-ready Fabia is unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show, which is to be held from 8 March to 18 March.
